Originally part of WN5 under the command of Lt Arthur Janke, 24, veteran from the Russian front, the bunker shown is the communicating centre of the defence. This is where the landings on Utah beach took place, and where Theodore Roosevelt Junior landed with the 4th Infantry Division and led the assault of the beach, turning the landing into a great success.
