About Your Tour Guide

About your tour guide, Jules Vernon ...

Julian Vernon was born in December 1968 and has come to be a Normandy guide with a varied and interesting background.

His specialist knowledge is excellent - he has been in the British Territorial Army, is an experienced shooter and is trained in sea survival and lifeboat safety too!

He has also managed a successful car repair and sales business in Brighton, been a steward on ocean-going cruises to Mexico and Alaska and also been a jewellery salesman. This experience gave him plenty of background knowledge and it’s his impeccable people-skills that immediately made him a top-notch guide.

Julian has restored several Willy jeeps and is also now a keen metal detectorist on the Normandy battlefields, carrying out battlefield archaeological diggings of the conflict (with permission from the land owners) and treats these sites with huge respect.

He started learning his family history with his grandmother telling him stories of his grandfather in the Royal Air Force Bomber Command during WW2, serving in 102 Squadron Pocklington flying Halifax bombers into Germany and then leading onto his great-grandfathers, who fought during the First World War. This gave him the passion to research their histories, discovering that his grandfather was shot down over the skies of Duisburg in 1943 at 33 years old (whilst having a daughter of 5 years of age). Within the research he became an avid collector of WW2 memorabilia.
